About me

How did White Cotton come about?

White Cotton is a blog which was birthed after I had emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix. I created it initially for all of you Googlers like me who need to know what your weird stomach pain might be. When it happened to me, I was on a beach trip and kept putting off getting it checked out. I could not find enough information on the web for the “normal people” out there like me who are never sick. Unfortunately, because I’m never sick, I waited too long to get checked out. Big mistake.

So, having a ruptured appendix really turned into your motivation for a blog?

Yes! It was one of the weirdest experiences I’ve ever had. I have ZERO medical background, and my posts TOTALLY approach this topic from my personal experience. I had only been in the hospital, prior to that, to have an elective surgery over 10 years ago and to have babies 14-20 years ago.

I have high deductible insurance.  Therefore, I avoid doctor bills like the plague! My goal with the appendicitis posts is to get you to the hospital much quicker than I did because mine ruptured! I had a life-threatening condition!

Catching it earlier than I did will save you thousands of dollars, give you back several weeks of your life and possibly save your life. Ironically, the fear of the ER bill is the main reason that I did not go within the first 24 hours of my symptoms. Of course, my bills were way worse by waiting.

Oh, and again, I was on a beach trip and did not want to spend the time or the money ‘dealing with it”. Perfect storm.

Why did you choose this particular picture for your “About me” page?

This picture of me was taken while we were eating with our fish chef friends. (whom you can read about in my symptoms of appendicitis post) I felt perfectly fine in this picture even though this was the night before my symptoms began.

Do you only write about Appendicitis?

Absolutely not!

This blog has blossomed into an eclectic mix of things I’ve learned through my life experiences, both good and bad, as I approach 50 years old.

Although I’ve been relatively healthy until my appendix ruptured, our family has had our fair share of ups and downs in various areas of our lives.

Having raised a 21, 19, and 15 year old, well, you can imagine the lessons I’ve learned along the way and the royal screw-ups in parenting that I wish I could forget.

Through it all, I’ve had two successful careers–the first as an English teacher for 10 years and the second, my current one, as a Realtor for over 15 years. I have learned to turn bad times into good times and want to share lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Meanwhile, should you have a question about anything in my blog, about real estate, or need a realtor in your area, shoot me an email here.
